Pictures that she will someday hate us for ::muah ha ha::

Ummm I think that last one is coming out on her first date, just to test that guy's commitment!

Culinary FAIL

So the other day I decided that I could totally be one of those bloggers who occasionally posts some of their culinary or baking triumphs! I could take "artsy" pictures of the healthy, delicious and all around awesome food that I am making for my family on a regular basis (ok, ok- a semi regular basis) We were also running low on snacks for Emma, so I decided I'll bake us up something yummy. The recipe was called "cheddar pennies" and was supposed to taste something like the goldfish crackers Emma loves so much (fishies!) Oh, and for a hilarious point of reference, here's a picture of what they were supposed to look like:

So far so good, I have my roll of cheddar dough, now all I have to do is refrigerate, cut it into small pieces and cook them into delicious morsels of cheesy goodness :) Note the "artsiness" of my picture.

Ok so this is the part where it all falls apart... I open my oven, expecting to see little cheese crackers and THIS is what I am greeted with:

Remember how I included that first picture as a hilarious point of reference? Feel free to compare now, and commence laughing at the overall thoroughness of my fail.
No mommy no! I swear if you make me eat this, I will call social services on myself! Why would you ever do this to me? I thought that you loved me!
(Ok, that might be a bit of an exageration, but what she really said was: no, no. no. no mama in a really sad voice- but this really was her reaction I swear)

::sigh:: I think this might be a sign that I should stick to rants about motherhood and posting funny pictures of the peanut from now on...

Duplos

Our little girl is getting so big! She's been "playing" with the Duplo blocks for months now, but she is finally getting really good at it! Before I would have to hold the blocks steady for her and show her how to push them down so they actually connected, but now she just builds away all on her own. The funny thing is though, for the last few days she only wants to play with the single bump blocks. She dumps out all the duplos and deliberately picks through them to find just those special blocks. And then she puts them all together into a big stick. It usually falls apart on her after about 8 or 9 blocks, but then she just starts over! Daddy is so proud! And mommy too... :)

Our blessings

Warning: This is going to be a really cheesy blog entry, and might not even contain any cute pictures of my daughter (which let's face it, is why people are even interested in this blog in the first place)

I am pretty much writing this for my benefit only because it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. So there, now you've been warned and if you read ahead it is your own fault and your wasted time cannot be attributed to me at all...

Sometimes I get caught up in the things that we haven't yet attained as a family (such as a house) that I forget how many blessings we have already received so early in life. So what follows is a list of blessings that have already been given to me:

1. Adam
At twenty-four years old, I have already found the man that I am going to spend the rest of my life with. And I get to wake up next to him every day. He is my partner and my playmate. He is there for me when I need him to be and he makes me laugh a lot! He is a person with whom I get to be completely myself, and with whom I can watch Battlestar Glactica without being mocked. And he is a wonderful, fully-involved father.

2. Emma-Jean Nicole
I don't understand why people today seem to think that it is unfortunate if a woman decides to have a child early on in her lifetime. I do not feel as though I have thrown my life options away. I feel like, I was designed to be having children at this point in my life and that it makes sense biologically. I want my children to know their great grandparents, and I want to be young enough to have the energy to keep up with them! At forty years of age, I do not want to be changing diapers! I feel like Emma brings an extra joy and a closeness to our relationship. It is most definitely a lot of hard work, but at fifty I want to be traveling the world with my best friend, not bringing my kids to elementary school!

3. The fact that I can stay home with Emma
The fact that I have witnessed almost every single moment of her first 15 months on this planet is a huge blessing. I have been present for every milestone, and even if at some point in the future I have to work at least I will always have that. :) Sometimes I feel like I can't wait for a break from her (and those are definitely important) but at the end of the day I love that I get to be at home with her. I love watching her grow.

4. Adam's job
During this economy especially, I am eternally grateful that Adam's job has remained stready and we haven't yet had to worry where his next paycheck will come from.

5. Tuesday Night Crew
We love you guys! You are the friends that everyone should be lucky enough to have in their lives. A true community, who is always there to encourage and to help when needed. I'm not sure what our life would be like without you guys, but I'm sure that it would be lonelier.

Anyway...these are the thoughts rattling around in my brain at the moment. Thanks for bearing with the cheesiness if you actually did manage to read this far. And there are many many more blessings but I won't make you read those as well!

Playing with daddy right before bed is one of Emma's favortie times of the day I think :)
